OMICRON

est. November 18, 2018

In the summer of 2015, two Latinas at San Francisco State University decided to establish a chapter of Sigma Omega Nu on campus. These two women had a vision to bring together a group of women on campus who would help each other navigate higher education while forming an intimate bond. After reaching out to the National Board, they decided to start the unofficial interest group, Las Solesitas, that embodies what the sorority stands for, academics, cultura, and sisterhood. Las Solesitas had members come and go, with every member making important contributions to the unofficial interest group. After three years of love, commitment, and dedication, eleven women started the official interest group of Sigma Omega Nu. Throughout the journey, the nine women that continued the process were Marina Reyes, Cassandra Peña, Amanda Morales, Jennifer Teran, Jennifer Ramirez Beltran, Nataly Martinez, Alondra Altamirano, Elinor Fox, and Gesselle Guzman Vera. After the official interest group was established, Pledge moms Beta Omicron 96 Andrea Hinojosa, Vanity, and Gamma Zeta 57 Michelle Parra, Wonder WΩmyn guided these nine women to establish the Omicron chapter of Sigma Omega Nu Latina Interest Sorority at San Francisco State University on November 18, 2018. Establishing the chapter on campus was a difficult process that brought about new challenges for the Sisters to overcome together, whom will continue to thrive and support one another in the years to come.
